- Launched from Hernesaari, the best visibility is from Kaivopuisto, Katajanokka and Suomenlinna.
- Helsinki Festival 18.8.-3.9.
- The most diverse event in the Finnish cultural calendar. The Helsinki Festival was founded in 1968, and it aims to display Finnish and international performing and creative arts, while featuring artists, ensembles and exhibitions of the highest level.
- Espoo Ciné 22.-27.8.
- An international film festival, arranged annually in August at the Espoo Cultural Centre, Tapiola.
- Etno-Espa 1.-24.8.
- A contemporary Finnish folk music event in Helsinki. On the Espa stage in the Esplanade Park, near the most famous tourist attractions of Helsinki, you can enjoy the best Finnish folk musicians. All concerts are free.
- Helsinki City Marathon 19.8. 15:00 (start)
- The second largest marathon event in Scandinavia. Over 6000 runners from 35 nationalities participated in Helsinki in 2005. With additional running events there were as many as 7100 runners.
- TransVision 2006 17.-19.8.
- International conference of the World Transhumanist Association. This year the theme of the conference will be Emerging Technologies of Human Enhancement. Recent and ongoing technological developments will be looked at and associated ethical and philosophical questions will be discussed.

- 40 artists and collectives from 24 countries participate in the international ARS 06 exhibition in Kiasma, Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki.
